Next week the Westland Gallery will be exhibiting their annual square foot exhibition.  All works must adhere to the dimensions of 12”X12”. This is one of their most popular shows of the year, and definitely a crowd-pleaser.  The gallery is transformed into a salon style exhibition space, that this year has over 500 pieces gracing the gallery walls.

The exhibition brings artists from varied levels together under one roof.  In many ways it is an opportunity to see what your peers are creating and share in a conversation of their creative process.  Sometimes this format is also a way to reach an audience that might not be aware of your work.  Or an opportunity to push a direction in your work that you may have been experimenting with.  The size constraint can at times be challenging, especially for those whom don’t always work so small.  I have thrown my hat in the ring as always and am using the opportunity to introduce my abstraction works which I have been developing over the last little while.

This past weekend my work was on exhibition at Anderson’s Craft Brewery.  The Old East portion of London has been going through an era of revitalization.  Small shops are opening up in places that for a long time were somewhat neglected by many Londoners.  In this area emerged the Anderson’s Micro Brewery.  The support of the local community bodes well for this young venture; a renewed interest in support of local business as well as farmers has grown significantly in the last few years.  Almost all of the artists’ involved in the show are from Southwestern Ontario.  Opening night found a supportive community who took in not only the great beer but some truly unique works of art.  In total there were 8 artists exhibiting and there were positive comments/reactions for the work displayed.  This was my first time showing with Unkle Collective, but certainly won’t be the last.  David Feeney who runs Unkle Collective is a great appreciator of the visual arts community and strives to promote both emerging and established artists.

They Come In BattalionsExcited to have the opportunity to exhibit with artists involved in the Unkle Collective Pop Up show at Anderson’s Micro Brewery.  This local craft brewery is teaming up with local artists, a great combination.  Selected works from my exhibition, Patterns of Behaviour will be part of my contribution to the show.  Hope to see some new and familiar faces out to support the artists and try some local beer.

The opening reception is December 1st at 6:00 PM, for further details please view the events page.
